Rare and unusual late 19th century Papua New Guinea highland fighting club, c1890.
With a simple wooden shaft the club has an elaborately carved point which terminates in the filed toenail/claw of a Cassowary bird. The shaft and terminal are bound together in traditional natural tribal bindings. Most likely from the Angu or Kukukuku tribe who were the only highland tribe to use clubs with wooden shafts.
