Fine 19th century shark vertebrae walking stick, c1860.
We have owned several of these over the years, but this is by far the best example. The vertebrae are huge and clearly come from a very large specimen. It is finished with a lovely, polished horn handle. There are around 68 vertebrae arranged in graduated form, ranging from 3.5cm diameter to 2 cm.
Overall condition is good in line with age and use. All vertebrae are complete and in perfect order except the very last one closest to the tip of the stick which has a small loss to one side. The handle has taken on great colour following years of handling and use. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to view the item.
Size: 87cm long x 16cm wide (handle) x 3.5cm deep.
