Large antique pewter/white metal Liverpool commemorative plate, c1890.
This is a quality piece weighing 2.3kg with lovely scalloped edges and it is highly decorative. It is marked 'Liverpool' and has the city's coat of arms as the central motif.
This features Triton and Neptune with a Liver bird holding seaweed in its beak and the city's Latin motto 'Deus Nobis Haec Otia Fecit', which translates as 'God has given us this tranquility'. It has great colour/patina and overall condition is good with only minor surface wear in line with age and use.
