A large antique 19th Century carved and painted wood religious statue, c1870. We are not sure whether it depicts Christ or a saint, but the figure is heavily robed, wearing a crown and carrying a staff (this is carved independently from the main statue).
This is an imposing piece, standing at nearly 3-feet 6-inches (103cm) tall. The quality of the carving and the paint/gilt decoration is hig, and it has just the right amount of 'distress' to the paintwork, etc., to give it real decorative presence.
It is in good original condition with minor surface wear, age-related cracks to the wood, minor paint loss/flaking and chips. Three fingertips are missing from one hand. Wear is minor, and only what you would expect from a piece of this age - which would have been displayed in a church for around 150 years. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact us with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
