A very rare and large antique Dyak tribal carved horse head and jaw bone, c1900. The Dyak were traditionally head-hunters from Borneo, and have a long history of decorating human and animal skulls.
This is a very impressive piece, one of the best examples we have seen. The quality of the carving/decoration is stunning - with the head extensively decorated with hunters, crocodiles, fish, a turtle, a female fertility figure, etc.
It has aged well, with good colour/patina. Overall condition is very good, with only a few teeth a little loose. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact us with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
Size: 47 cm long x 27 cm tall x 20 cm wide. We ship worldwide, but the piece is quite large so please contact us for a bespoke carriage quotation for your country.Dispatch and returns:
